The Exploding Toilet download: How to avoid this urban legend

The product is sold at Home Depot, Lowe's stores and online at www.grainger.com, www.hdsupply.com, www.homedepot.com and other online retailers from September 1996 through December 2015 for about $108 for the units without toilets.

According to the recall notice, the affected 501-B units are at risk of bursting near the weld seam, which would release the internal pressure of the device. In some instances, the force of the pressure can be enough to lift the lid off the toilet tank or shatter the tank altogether. Such an explosion presents impact and cut hazards to anyone using the toilet, or, even if the restroom is empty, could cause property damage.

Due to the potential for severe injury, Flushmate suggests that anyone with a 501-B unit installed immediately stop using them, regardless of how they currently appear to be functioning. If all of your toilets are affected by recalled devices, Flushmate suggests pouring 2-3 gallons of water into the bowl to gravity flush the waste.

The plumbing company called to help fix it, posted on Facebook that the toilet exploded in the master bathroom, "sending porcelain airborne like a missile." The porcelain of the toilet actually penetrated the wall. Even some of the windows got blown out.

Okmulgee Fire Lt. Rocky Morrow took photos of what's left of a toilet after a lightning strike at the Oxford Apartments on Wednesday night. The toilet shattered and charred from the strike, but nobody was hurt.

Explosive diarrhea is the least of worries for consumers who have a certain type of water conservation device installed in their toilet. Models of the Flushmate III Pressure-Assist Flushing System manufactured between 1997 and 2008 are the subject of a recall by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission after the devices themselves were found to be an explosion risk.

The Explosives hazard class has not been implemented in WHMIS 2015. However, you may see this hazard class identified on a safety data sheet or label. The Explosives hazard class is also assigned the exploding bomb pictogram and has the following categories:

"Methane gas is gas caused by the number two," Jordan Hagadorn, owner of the business repairing the couple's toilet, A-1 Affordable Plumbing Inc., told USA TODAY. "The natural gas is from crap, literally."

In the 2020 video, an upturned Coke bottle, with several Mentos attached to it, is placed in a toilet bowl. The bottle shoots up, flies around the bathroom, and what can only be described as an eruption ensues in the toilet bowl, sending gallons of waste water into an apartment building. Then, a geyser of toilet water smashes through the apartment window and falls several stories to the ground below.

On Reddit, he could be found conversing with other users about how he created the video using visual effects and animation software including Houdini and RealFlow. He also provided a link to the original footage he used for the first few seconds of the video (the Coke bottle surging upwards from the toilet bowl), which he pointed out was the only piece of footage in his creation that he did not animate himself.

The government says some high-pressure toilets sold at Home Depot and Lowe's are being recalled because they could explode. The Consumer Product Safety Commission says Flushmate is recalling 351,000 units of the Series 503 Flushmate 111 Pressure Assist. A problem with a part could cause the toilet tank to shatter.

He was later transferred to Ruby Memorial Hospital. His name and condition were not available Wednesday. The explosion, which occurred in Blacksville, resulted from a buildup of methane gas inside the portable toilet.
